UC Merced to Connect Research, Practices to Improve Youth Well-Being

In an effort to help improve the health of young people in the Central Valley, the University of California, Merced, will host a conference next month to connect innovative researchers with community members working to improve the lives of area youth.

“Building Healthy Youth in Merced County: Community Engagement and Scholarship” will showcase successful research and evidence-based programs that can promote positive youth development in Merced County.

Last month, the Associated Students of UC Merced hosted its second You See Leaders Conference.

Bobcats Make History with First Win

The match would have been historic regardless, as the Golden Bobcats were playing their first home sporting event. But they made the night even sweeter with a 25-16, 27-25, 20-25, 25-18 win over Pacific Union College in their California Pacific Conference debut.

Campus Gears Up to Host First Varsity Sporting Events

 

The University of California, Merced, will celebrate the first varsity sporting events on campus next week, with the women’s volleyball team playing its home opener on Sept. 22 and an Athletics Kickoff Tailgate event prior to their game on Sept. 24.

Yale's World-Renowned Singing Group to Perform on Campus

The Whiffenpoofs, Yale University's world-famous a cappella singing group, will make history when it performs this fall at the University of California, Merced. It will be the group's first visit to the San Joaquin Valley, and their first performance at any UC campus.

"This is an exciting event for UC Merced," said Gail Benedict, producing manager for Arts UC Merced Presents. "If you like the TV show 'Glee,' you will love the Whiffenpoofs, because the Warblers on 'Glee' were modeled after the Whiffenpoofs. I am very proud that Merced is the first UC to host the Whiffenpoofs."

Earth Week Celebration Grows in Second Year

Now in its second year, UC Merced's student-run Earth Week celebration is growing and evolving.

Organized by junior Diana Franklin — the Associated Students of UC Merced's Commissioner of Sustainability — the five-day fete will begin with a kickoff event on April 18 and culminate on Earth Day, April 22.
