The UC Merced men’s basketball team will attempt to follow the women’s volleyball team’s lead this weekend and earn a win in their first home contest at the NAIA level.

The match would have been historic regardless, as the Golden Bobcats were playing their first home sporting event. But they made the night even sweeter with a 25-16, 27-25, 20-25, 25-18 win over Pacific Union College in their California Pacific Conference debut.
The University of California, Merced, will celebrate the first varsity sporting events on campus next week, with the women’s volleyball team playing its home opener on Sept. 22 and an Athletics Kickoff Tailgate event prior to their game on Sept. 24.
UC Merced’s 2,100 resident students are gearing up for a month-long battle in which no one will get hurt. They might have greasy hair, though.
