SSHA Professors Conducting Summer Research Projects

Like their colleagues in science and engineering, researchers in UC Merced’s School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts are keeping busy this summer with a wide variety of projects.

Musical Sheds Light on Lives of Undocumented Youth

In and Out of Shadows,” a musical by famed Chicano writer and Fresno native Gary Soto, is coming to Merced for a special one-night-only show on April 11. Performed by the San Francisco Youth Theatre DREAM ensemble, the show will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Merced Theatre’s Art Kamangar Center, 301 W. Main St. Tickets are $5 at the door.

Mostern in D.C. to Advocate for Humanities Research

Ruth MosternProfessor Ruth Mostern, chair of the Interdisciplinary Humanities graduate group, is in Washington, D.C., today and tomorrow (March 16 to 17) to advocate for the humanities.

Gift Establishes UC Merced Presidential Chair in the Humanities

The University of California, Merced, will soon benefit from increased leadership in the humanities, thanks to an anonymous $500,000 donation and a $500,000 match from the UC Office of the President.
 
The gift and match will establish a $1 million endowment to fund the UC Merced Presidential Chair in the Humanities. The chair will provide leadership and vision for humanities research at UC Merced, said Mark Aldenderfer, dean of the School of Social Sciences Humanities and Arts.
