Matching Funds Inspire Hundreds to Donate on Day of Giving

Giving Tuesday UC Merced, the campus’s annual campaign to raise money for scholarships and fellowships, generated more than $700,000 in about 24 hours. Close to 750 individuals — including students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members — participated in the campaign, and many donated more than once throughout the day. This concerted effort led to the third-annual event raising more than twice as much as last year.

Researchers Enlist Hospital in Fight Against Antibiotic Resistance

There are 1.7 million multidrug-resistant, hospital-acquired infections that extend hospital stays, increase medical expenses and decrease quality of life. The United States alone reports at least 120,000 deaths annually from resistant infections that are improperly treated because of a scarcity of reliable antibiotics. 

But a new study shows that not only can hospitals be breeding grounds for antibiotic-resistant bacteria, they are also important in stopping the evolution of resistant bacteria.

'Revolutionary Theatre' Performance to Explore Racism, Inequality

Students in the UC Merced Global Arts Studies Program will present “Voices of the Revolutionary Theatre Collective” Dec. 8 at the Merced Multicultural Arts Center.

The production will explore the history of embedded racism through excerpts from the plays of Luis Valdez, Marvin X, Ben Caldwell, Ntozake Shange and other prominent authors from the Chicano and Black Arts Movements.
