Professor Contributes to Research on Oil Spills

Researching oceanic oil spills can be difficult when you work at a landlocked university like UC Merced.

But thanks to a large consortium of researchers from around the country, that’s exactly what Professor Wei-Chun Chin is doing in the hopes of understanding the deeper, long-term effects of spills to better deal with them.

Research Week 2015 Competition Winners Announced

Each year, the Office of Research and Economic Development sponsors Research Week. Researchers from all corners of campus are encouraged to display their work and show visitors the important work they do.

Research Week always features student research-poster competitions, and, for the past couple of years, the 90-Second Video Challenge. A winner is chosen from each school in the poster competitions, and the campus community chooses the video winner, voting online after reviewing the submissions.

Gift Establishes UC Merced Presidential Chair in the Humanities

The University of California, Merced, will soon benefit from increased leadership in the humanities, thanks to an anonymous $500,000 donation and a $500,000 match from the UC Office of the President.
 
The gift and match will establish a $1 million endowment to fund the UC Merced Presidential Chair in the Humanities. The chair will provide leadership and vision for humanities research at UC Merced, said Mark Aldenderfer, dean of the School of Social Sciences Humanities and Arts.
