Campus Gears Up for Year of Growth, Changes

A new chancellor, more students and additional buildings all on tap for 2011 as
UC Merced heads into the second half of its sixth academic year

In the coming year, the University of California, Merced, will appoint new leadership, open additional buildings, increase enrollment and hire more faculty members.

UC Merced, UC Davis Announce First Class of Medical Students in UC Merced San Joaquin Valley Program in Medical Education

The University of California, Merced, and UC Davis School of Medicine announced today the first cohort of students who are expected to enroll this fall in the UC Merced San Joaquin Valley Program in Medical Education (PRIME).

The two campuses announced in September a partnership to begin educating medical students in the Valley. A gift to UC Merced from the United Health Foundation in 2006 is helping to fund the new program.

I am deeply shocked and saddened by the news of the tragic 8.9-magnitude earthquake and ensuing tsunami that struck Japan today. This major catastrophe has caused heavy damage, apparently mostly in the northeastern portion of the country. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected, certainly the people of Japan and those here in the U.S. who have friends and family there.
