The University of California, Merced, directly invested nearly $170 million in the San Joaquin Valley economy over the past 12 months, according to the university’s annual Economic Impact Report released today (Oct. 13).
Regional investments since the campus began start-up operations in July 2000 now total $1.27 billion, the university reported. Statewide, UC Merced’s economic impact over the past 12 months amounted to $223 million, bringing its cumulative total to more than $2.4 billion.
Twelve new trustees have been appointed to the University of California, Merced, Foundation Board of Trustees.
The purpose of the 62-member board is to assist in the promotion and financial support of the university’s mission of teaching, research and public service. Among their roles as trustees, members raise and increase philanthropic support, advocate for the university and manage a portion of the university’s endowment.
Current and prospective graduate students have new degree options at UC Merced, which recently received approval from the UC system and the WASC Senior College and University Commission for both master’s and doctoral degrees in sociology.
