

The Sierra Nevada Research Institute (SNRI) is the first of UC Merced’s signature interdisciplinary research institutes.
Uniting Outstanding Researchers in Interdisciplinary Cooperation
SNRI will draw in experts in the natural sciences, engineering and policy sciences. Already, professors and other researchers are working together in unique laboratory facilities designed to facilitate collaboration and communication.
Taking Advantage of the Natural Laboratory Around UC Merced
SNRI capitalizes on the vastness and diversity of the nearby Sierra Nevada and the adjacent Central Valley, where UC Merced is located. These regions, whose natural resources are so closely interwoven, provide opportunities to study forest, grassland, watershed and other systems. Researchers who study them are already making discoveries that will apply in similar situations all over the world.
