Development Plan's Amendment Endorsed by UC Board of Regents

High School Visit to Inspire Local Students to 'Achieve UC'

University of California, Merced, Chancellor Dorothy Leland will visit Merced High School Oct. 18 as part of Achieve UC, a systemwide initiative to show high school students how they can attain a University of California education.

The idea behind the event is to inspire students to aim for college, then provide them with the information they need to get there.

Campus' Math Course Launches UC Online Program

A calculus course at UC Merced marks the first class to be offered through the University of California's online instruction project, with several more courses to be rolled out in early April. The program's inaugural course, which began Jan. 17, is a preparatory calculus class taught by instructors Lei Yue and Maria Albert.

State Budget Shortfall Forces Second Fee Increase for Fall 2011

The University of California Board of Regents today (July 14) approved a plan to close a $1 billion budget shortfall through a combination of higher student tuition, cost-cutting measures and operational efficiencies.

Regents, on a 14-4 vote, reluctantly approved a 9.6 percent tuition increase, effective this fall for all UC students, after agreeing with administrators that it was the only course left that would not erode the quality of the university.
