Invited to Enroll
Summer is the season for San Joaquin Valley students to get a
head start or catch up on earning university credits by enrolling
in UC Merced Summer Session 2006. More than 100 students have
already enrolled for the sixth year of summer courses offered by
the new UC campus and the deadline for registration is June 2.
General education courses in computer science, calculus,
psychology and writing are included in this summer’s schedule,
which features a regular eight-week session from June 5 through
July 28. Still open for enrollment are Introduction to Computing I,
Calculus I and General Psychology.
The campus also is presenting a second special session geared
toward incoming UC freshmen from June 19 through August 4. Designed
to help students develop and strengthen their college-level skills,
this summer’s “bridge” courses include Preparatory Chemistry and Pre-Calculus.
“We have worked closely with the faculty to offer courses this
summer that best meet the needs of our current students and new,
incoming students,” said University Registrar and Director of
Summer Sessions Kent Kuo. “We look to build upon these summer
offerings in future semesters and summers, presenting a variety of
quality courses that showcase the small class environment with
engaging and highly talented faculty.”
Taught by highly qualified instructors, all courses will be
presented on the UC Merced campus, with one course - General
Psychology - to be available via live, two-way videoconferencing at
the UC Merced centers in Fresno and Bakersfield. Two to four units
of credit are available for each course.
Current students at any UC campus - including newly admitted
UC students, students at other universities and colleges, high
school graduates and eligible high school students who have
completed their junior year are invited to enroll. High school
students must submit an official letter from their high school
principal stating their grade point average (GPA) and
qualifications to take UC-level courses.
Course fees are $205 per unit for UC undergraduate students and
$225 for non-UC students. Limited funding is available for current
UC Merced students who have filed a 2005-06 Free Application for
Federal State Aid and complete a UC Merced Summer Session Financial
Aid Application by June 2.
Everyone other than current UC Merced students must submit the
UC Merced Summer Session 2006 application available online by
visiting

Registration link. The application and any other required materials
should be submitted to the UC Merced Summer Session office by mail
at 5200 North Lake Rd., Merced, CA 95340 or by fax at (209)
381-7861. During regular business hours, applications also can be
returned in person to the UC Merced Registrar’s Office in the
Kolligian Library on campus.
