Health Sciences Fair at UC Merced Draws Huge Crowd

September 27, 2004

Over 800 students from 20 area schools attended the first-ever UC Merced Health Sciences Fair on Friday, September 21, 2004. Senator Jeff Denham also visited the event, which was organized in partnership with Merced College, Modesto Junior College and San Joaquin Delta College. The Health Sciences Fair was held at UC Merced's Castle facilities, thanks to a $65,000 grant from Area Health Education Centers as well as funding from other sponsors.

Attendees listened to presentations from doctors, dentists, veterinarians, researchers and more. They also visited dozens of displays staffed with representatives from organizations like Genentech, UC San Francisco's School of Nursing and Mercy Medical Center Merced.

UC Merced plans to host more events like the Health Sciences Fair in the future in order to help students find educational pathways to successful careers.
