UC Merced Writing Project Targets K-14 Educators for Saturday Series

November 12, 2002

The UC Merced Writing Project is inviting teachers of kindergarten through community college to participate in a continuing “Saturday Outreach Series” at the Merced Tri-College Center. The next session in the monthly series is scheduled for Saturday, November 16 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Designed to help teachers implement teaching practices that address the California State Writing Standards and increase the academic successfulness of their students, the workshops share practices to help teachers at any grade level or in any subject area integrate meaningful writing instruction into their curricula. Workshop topics include Building a Trusting Writing Environment, Reading to Write: Seeing Writing as Thinking, Making First Connections to Writing, Teaching Literacy Through Music, and Writing Picture Books for All Ages.

The program is coordinated by Lynn Kahn Park of the Merced City School District, and all presenters are local Teacher Consultants for the UC Merced Writing Project, which believes that teachers are the best teachers of other teachers.

Teachers may attend any or all of the sessions, which are presented from 8 a.m. to noon on a monthly basis through April 2003. The cost is $35 per session.
