UPDATE: Board of Regents Approves Campus Expansion Plan

NOTE: After receiving approval from two key committees Thursday morning, UC Merced’s 2020 Project was approved by the full Board of Regents on Thursday afternoon, in a vote that was initially scheduled for Friday. The following release was issued earlier today, after the vote by the Committee on Finance and the Committee on Grounds and Buildings.

Campus on Track to Meet State’s Water Conservation Demands

Four months into the reporting period for Gov. Jerry Brown’s water-reduction mandate, and UC Merced has so far exceeded the goal.

Now it needs the campus community's help.

The campus, which constructed all of its buildings to be 40 percent more efficient than state requirements, has so far been able to trim another 25 percent of its water consumption from the baseline year of 2013, despite the addition of two new buildings and 1,000 more students since then.

Campus to Host Community Forum on Growth Plans

UC Merced Chancellor Dorothy Leland and members of her leadership team will hold a forum to provide community members with an update on the 2020 Project and university facilities to be located in downtown Merced. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, in the California Room on campus.

“This is an opportunity for our local community members to learn about our growth plans both on campus and in the community,” said Cori Lucero, executive director of governmental and community relations. “We hope many people will attend and bring questions they may have for us.”

Princeton Review Lists Campus Among Greenest Schools

For the first time, UC Merced made the Princeton Review’s list of the most environmentally responsible colleges.

The education services company — known for its test prep and tutoring services, books and college rankings — features UC Merced in the 2015 edition of its free book, The Princeton Review Guide to 353 Green Colleges.

Campus Outlines Innovative Plan to Double Physical Capacity

The University of California, Merced, today will outline for the UC Board of Regents a new development strategy that will more than double the physical capacity of campus facilities by 2020 in an effort to accommodate record numbers of student applicants, increase regional and statewide access to a UC education and support the university’s most critical academic and research priorities.
