Palmer Headed for Capitol Hill as Campus’s First Congressional Science Fellow

UC Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellow Hannah Palmer, Ph.D., was named as the 2022-23 Congressional Science Fellow by the Geological Society of America (GSA) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and will spend a year in Washington, D.C., working for a member of Congress or a congressional committee beginning in September 2022.

Kamil Williams-Fisher is enjoying the summer in her hometown of Los Angeles before starting classes this fall at UC Merced.

A graduate of St. Mary's Academy in Inglewood, she first heard about the newest UC from another Bobcat. However, she initially didn't apply because the university's location was so foreign to her.

UC Merced Expands Opportunity for Students in Dinuba to Attend College

The University of California, Merced, continues to pave the way to success for local high school students. The campus announced the expansion of the Merced Automatic Admission Program (MAAP) for students at Dinuba Unified School District (DUSD).

The new partnership will allow students with a weighted GPA of 3.5 with no grade lower than a “C” to be automatically admitted to UC Merced through a streamlined admissions process.

UC Merced Ranks Among Top 50 Universities with Real Impact to Society

UC Merced continues to make history. The newest campus within the UC system has been ranked No. 25 in the 2022 Global Top 100 Most Innovative Universities by World's Universities with Real Impact (WURI.)

The campus was also ranked No. 8 for Industrial Application. The category acknowledges the institution's integrated curriculum, including location-based assignments and civic engagements in its global rotation cities.

Location Draws Salinas Senior to UC Merced

Victor Oregon will attend UC Merced to study mechanical engineering this fall.

A key factor in his decision to attend UC Merced was its proximity to his family and to Yosemite National Park.

“I chose Merced for the financial aid that I am being awarded, and because of its unique location like no other,” he said. “I like how close it is to some of the best national parks in the United States. The campus also has National Park Service rangers on site.”

Alumna Establishes Scholarship to Help Future Generations of Students

As part of her goal to give back to her alma mater as well as the San Jose community that supported and fostered her growth, UC Merced alumna Nohely Aguilar (’12) has established a scholarship to assist students who follow in her footsteps.

The Nohely Aguilar Scholarship Fund will provide financial assistance to college-bound students who select the path from Mt. Pleasant High to UC Merced, the same as Aguilar’s academic journey.

Dr. Ranu and Preeti Mishra Honored for Gift with Named Suite in Conference Center

Dr. Ranu Mishra, a Merced prosthodontist and a member of the UC Merced Foundation Board of Trustees, and his wife, Preeti Mishra, have made a significant donation to UC Merced that will help solidify the campus’s ability to host regional and national events and create inviting spaces ideal for academic collaborations, presentations and information exchange.

The executive suite in the new state-of-the-art conference center will be named the Dr. Mahavir B. Mishra Executive Suite in honor of Ranu Mishra’s father.
