Fast fact: For now, UC Merced students enjoy a 12-to-one student-teacher ratio.

Fast fact: On the drawing boards: a medical program and a school of management. Already up and running: The Sierra Nevada Research Institute, the World Cultures Institute and the Health Sciences Research Institute, which is the foundation of the future medical program and will serve as its research arm once the school is operating.

Fast fact: At the new Wilderness Desk in the recreation and wellness center, students can rent outdoor equipment, purchase park passes and even view park weather conditions on a Web cam in Yosemite.

Fast fact: We have undergraduate students working on such research projects as alternate energy, stem cells, artificial intelligence and computer mapping of the human mind.

Fast fact: Hundreds of our students take part in groups that mentor younger students to help them get on the college track or help local charities improve their operations and recruit volunteers.

Fast fact: Through service-learning projects, our students have solved such problems as database streamlining for a local women’s shelter and saving precious exhibits for a struggling museum. Students are also learning and working in Yosemite to help the park and the environment.
