Office of the Chancellor

The chancellor sets the campus' strategic vision — creating an ambitious yet feasible trajectory for developing a distinctive research university campus as UC Merced grows to 10,000 students when the 2020 Project is complete. The units within the chancellor's organization offer support in this mission, and include the immediate Office of the Chancellor, University Communications, Governmental and Community Relations, Ombuds, Audit Services, Legal Services and EEO/AA/Title IX.

Office of the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor

The provost and executive vice chancellor is the chief academic officer of UC Merced. In addition to overseeing all academic programs, including instruction and research, the provost and executive vice chancellor provides leadership for campus administrative operations. The provost is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of academic initiatives, as well as the infrastructure to support campus academic objectives. Among the broad array of campus administrators reporting to this office are the deans of the schools of Engineering; Natural Sciences; and Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts; the dean of Graduate Studies; the vice provost for Undergraduate Education; the university librarian; and the chief information officer. The provost and executive vice chancellor also is responsible for the Academic Personnel Office and UC Merced’s educational outreach centers.

Division of Finance and Administration

The Division of Finance and Administration develops operating and capital budgets, provides business guidance, and conducts long-range forecasts to support UC Merced's mission of teaching, research and public service. Our team's talented professionals oversee Financial Planning and Analysis, Business and Financial Services, Human Resources, Center of Institutional Effectiveness, and Auxiliary Enterprises and Fiscal Innovation.

Division of Student Affairs

The Division of Student Affairs is committed to maintaining a campus community that celebrates diversity, academic achievement and civic engagement. Student Affairs is also committed to providing services and support that allow students to realize their intellectual, physical, social and emotional potential. In addition to working with students, many of the units within Student Affairs work closely with students' parents and family members. Student Affairs likes to say that parents and families are UC Merced's partners in student success.

Division of Planning and Budget

The Division of Planning and Budget develops operating and capital budgets, provides space-planning guidance, conducts long-range forecasting and provides real estate services to support UC Merced's teaching, research and public service mission. The team comprises talented professionals who oversee Institutional Research and Decision Support, the Campus Budget Office, Capital Finance, Physical and Environmental Planning and Academic Facilities Planning.

Office of Research and Economic Development

The Office of Research and Economic Development provides leadership, education and oversight to support world-class, scholarly investigation at UC Merced. The Office of Research and Economic Development is responsible for multiple departments, including campus institutes and centers and campus core facilities.

External Relations

Led by the vice chancellor and chief external relations officer, External Relations is principally concerned with the brand, reputation and philanthropic advancement of the university. It includes fundraising, marketing, communications, government and community relations, alumni relations, event planning and social media, which work hand in glove to promote and support academic research and teaching, student success and the growth of the institution.
