Campus Receives Six Statements of Qualifications for 2020 Project

August 1, 2014
The campus will now develop a short-list of teams to which the request for proposals will be released later this year.

MERCED, Calif. — In a strong indication of broad interest in partnering with the University of California, Merced, to further grow the UC system’s newest campus, six respondent teams submitted statements of qualifications (SOQ) to participate in the 2020 Project.

The 2020 Project includes the comprehensive development of academic, administrative, research, recreational, student services and housing facilities. This includes infrastructure, utilities, outdoor recreation areas, open space areas, roadways, parking and landscaping.  One of the key goals of the project is to accommodate student enrollment growth from 6,200 to 10,000 students by the year 2020.

The request for qualifications (RFQ) was issued on April 17 and closed July 28.

The teams that submitted SOQs (in alphabetical order) are:

  1. Edgemoor Plenary EdR Partners (EP2)
  2. E3 2020
  3. Gateway2Learn
  4. Innovation Partners
  5. Merced Campus Collaborative
  6. Merced 2020 Partners

A more detailed list of the respondent teams may be found on the project website.

During the next several months, UC Merced will evaluate the SOQs based on evaluation criteria set forth in the RFQ. The next step is the short-listing of teams that will have the opportunity to submit detailed proposals in response to a request for proposals. A development team is expected to be selected by the end of 2015.

The selected development team will create facilities that support an inspiring and dynamic living and learning environment, providing opportunities for interdisciplinary scholarly activities. The project will develop up to 1.85 million square feet of new teaching, research and residential facilities on a 219-acre, university-owned site that includes the existing campus. Following the selection of the development team, the university aims to begin construction in 2016 and deliver the first building as early as late 2017.
