Berkeley Extension Increases UC Merced"s Summer Options

Summer is a great time to play catch-up. Homeowners often embark on improvement projects, and students often take the opportunity to make up credits or get ahead academically.

For the past few years, UC Merced’s Summer Session program has been committed to making the campus a convenient place for current and prospective students - and community members - to continue or try out research-focused courses here in the San Joaquin Valley.

This year, UC Merced is taking it a step further by offering UC Berkeley Extension courses at its Fresno Center. Summer offerings at UC Merced’s Fresno Center will include professional courses in project management, counseling, computer systems and programming, solar energy and digital publishing. More courses will be added in the fall.

These classes offer the perfect opportunity for Valley professionals to further hone their skills and increase their market value in the workforce. Registration for the Extension courses beginning in June is still open. For information:

Those yearning for a taste of traditional UC life at a reduced price are encouraged to register now for traditional Summer Session courses at the UC Merced campus.

Summer session is an exciting time for students and the community. It’s the one time when UC Merced classes are open to almost anyone, regardless of academic experience, said Associate Registrar Steve Noret. That means students from any UC campus, members of the general public, and even qualified high school students can experience UC Merced for a summer.

It’s a great time for anyone to take a UC class and to see what our campus is all about, he said.

Registration for Summer Session courses will continue until classes begin June 15.  Students are encouraged to register early, because classes fill up quickly.

Summer session classes are open to anyone at least 18 years old, though high school juniors can also enroll as long as they have a letter of recommendation from their school principal or counselor.
