MERCED - UC Merced’s Summer Session 2007 promises to be lively,
with more than three times last year’s enrollment. Courses are
available on campus as well as at the Bakersfield and Fresno
centers for those who want to fit in some classes over the summer.
However, students should firm up their plans, because the last
day to register is June 18.
“We’re very pleased to be able to offer courses up and down the
Valley, but we want to make sure everyone who wants to take a class
has the opportunity,” said Assistant Director of Summer Session
Shannon Adamson. “Planning ahead gives people the best chance at
getting the courses that really interest them.”
A wide variety of classes are offered on the main campus and
broadcast live to UC Merced’s satellite centers in Bakersfield and
Fresno. The broadcast courses are fully interactive, so students in
the centers can participate in class discussions and ask questions
of the instructors as class is going on.
Last year, 97 students took courses over the summer. As of this
week, more than 300 students have signed up.
Summer Session is a great way to squeeze in some extra credits
or fulfill requirements while students are away from campus for the
summer, but courses are also open to anyone 18 or older who is
interested in a summertime learning experience, or high school
seniors who fit certain criteria.
Classes include biology, chemistry, Chinese, computer sciences,
literature, math, psychology, Spanish and more.
