Join the Chinese connection
Follow along as faculty visit China, including nature reserve and partner university

The Far East beckons and UC Merced responds.

Several faculty members are visiting Chengdu, the capital of the Sichuan Province in southwest China, for an educational conference, to celebrate Sichuan University’s 110th anniversary and to spend time in one of the country’s most precious natural resources, Jiuzhaigou National Nature Reserve.

Acting Dean of Graduate Studies, Vice Chancellor for Research and Director of the Sierra Nevada Research Institute Samuel Traina is one of the trip’s participants, and agreed to post updates and photos here so the rest of us can follow along.

Traina and others will stay until Labor Day, and tour the nature reserve, a World Culture and Natural Heritage site like Yosemite.

The whole trip was organized by the UC Office of the President, and is a way to work on the 10+10 Program, an effort for the 10 UC campuses to partner with 10 prominent research universities in China. The goal is to increase research and learning opportunities for faculty and students in both countries.
