Registered UC Students Now Eligible to Use Rec Facilities at Any UC Campus

June 10, 2005

To support student health throughout the UC system, a policy of
reciprocity is being adopted by the Recreational Sports Consortium,
starting June 1, 2005. During the one year pilot program, all
registered UC students may use the recreational facilities at any
UC campus.

Throughout the UC system, campus recreational sport
facilities and programs play a vital role in student life. UC
students are increasingly committed to personal fitness, as
demonstrated by the large numbers of students who regularly workout
to enhance and balance their stressful academic lives.

As students travel around the state, over breaks and
holidays, they often seek to continue their fitness routines, but
until now there has been no standard policy permitting students
from one campus to use recreational sports facilities at the other
campuses.

During the academic year, visiting students with valid UC
student IDs will be admitted at no charge to recreational sports
facilities system wide. At specialty facilities, i.e. aquatic
centers, equestrian centers, etc., the visiting students may
participate by paying the standard campus student rate.

For summer quarter/session, UC students will be eligible to
purchase summer passes as though they were continuing students at
the campus they are visiting.

Based on results of the pilot program, a decision will be
made regarding a final student reciprocity policy. n the future, a
similar program may be designed for faculty, staff, and other
non-student members. In the meantime, visiting faculty and staff
may purchase passes and memberships at any campus, at the local
campus faculty and staff rate.
