UC Merced Writing Project Encourages Teachers to Share Best Practices

Teachers of kindergarten through community college are invited to join the more than 100 teachers who already have participated in the 2004-2005 UC Merced Writing Project's Saturday Outreach Series at the Merced Tri-College Center. The fourth session in the series is scheduled for this Saturday, Jan. 8, from 8 a.m. to noon. This month's topics are: Anticipating the Argument in Persuasive Writing and Achieving Voice in Characters by Showing Them.

Designed to help teachers implement teaching practices that address the California State Writing Standards and increase the academic success of their students, the workshops share practices to help teachers at any grade level and in any subject area integrate meaningful writing instruction into their curricula.

Teachers may attend any or all of the sessions, which are presented from 8 a.m. to noon on a monthly basis through March 2005. The cost is $35 per session. Federal funding or other grant funding at individual school sites might be available to cover registration cost. Teachers are advised to contact their school administrator for more information. Academic credit may also be available.
