Calling All Students: Bobcat Day

Calling All Students: Bobcat Day

This Saturday, April 23, prospective UC Merced students and the community of Merced will get to know each other for the first time. Bobcat Day is an open house for newly admitted students and their families.

At Bobcat Day, students who have been accepted to UC Merced have a great opportunity to learn more about our campus and make their decision to attend college here, says Encarnación Ruiz, UC Merced’s director of admissions. They can learn about the unique academic, social, residential and recreational experiences that will await them on campus, and share in the excitement of making history as the first students at UC Merced.

The event is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will also offer tours of the campus site, including an inside view of rooms in the Valley Terrace student housing complex.

The Community Partnership Alliance, a working group that joins the interests of UC Merced and local businesses and community members, has planned a downtown Merced event in Bob Hart Square from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. as part of Bobcat Day. The celebration will include entertainment, dance and athletic presentations, and informational tables from organizations throughout Merced and the UC. Other planned activities include tours of the city, a discussion forum for students, and special business promotions for students.

Visitors on Bobcat Day will form their first impressions of Merced and share their views with friends back home, says Steve Roussos of the Community Partnership Alliance. Everyday community members joined by civic and business leaders have made extensive plans to help prospective students and their families feel welcome and to help Merced celebrate its role as a university town.

Admitted students and their families are encouraged to RSVP for Bobcat Day, even at the last minute. Students and their families can RSVP by calling (559) 241-7474 or toll free in California at (866) 270-7301.

Students can also make appointments for campus tours through the UC Merced Admissions Office.
