Bobcat Books Open for Business

Bobcat Books Open for Business

Whether it’s buying a textbook or grabbing a quick snack before class begins, UC Merced’s Bobcat Books now offers everything necessary to get through the college experience.

Recovering from the fury of opening the temporary bookstore and distributing textbooks at the beginning of the semester, Bookstore Manager Kevin Storms and his staff worked hard to move the campus bookstore into its new home on the first floor in the Blue Wing of the Kolligian Library.

;We had the room open over Family Weekend so people could get an idea of what it would be like, and we had some great feedback,” said Storms.

The bookstore can be best described as part college store, part shopping mall, with plenty of non-textbook goods available. Snacks, leisure reading, small electronics and UC Merced gear like sweatshirts and lanyards are available.

The bookstore celebrated its Grand Opening on Dec. 5 with discounts; drawings for an iPod, UC Merced gear and other exciting prizes; food and a festive atmosphere.

Until the Grand Opening, the bookstore operated a temporary store further down the Blue Wing. The Textbook Annex, a warehouse-type room where students picked up their books at the beginning of the semester, will serve the same purpose for the next few years. Storms says it makes more sense to save space in Bobcat Books for the wares that the campus community wants and needs on a more regular basis.

;All of our staff - and the students and other campus personnel, too - are excited about the new facility,” said Storms. The students finally have their bookstore, with more goods and services to choose from. And that makes everybody happy.”
