MERCED, CA. — Principals, teachers and guidance counselors from around the San Joaquin Valley are encouraged to attend one of several free seminars planned in April and May for educators to hear news they can use about the UC Merced campus, which is scheduled to open in fall 2005.
Hosted at convenient sites around the Valley, the programs will provide educators with firsthand information about campus development, student admissions and student life at UC Merced. Attendees also will meet deans, professors and student affairs representatives from the campus who can address educators' questions.
“We must begin working now to ensure that San Joaquin Valley students have the best opportunity to take advantage of the educational experiences that will be available at UC Merced,” said Director of Admissions Encarnación Ruíz. “We hope that these seminars provide our middle school, high school and community college colleagues with information they can use to help students prepare for admission to UC Merced.”
All seminars are scheduled from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the following locations on the following dates:
- Challenger Learning Center, Atwater - Wednesday, April 7, 2004
- UC Center, Fresno - Wednesday, April 14, 2004
- Red Lion Hotel, Modesto - Thursday, April 22, 2004
- Radisson Hotel, Stockton - Tuesday, April 27, 2004
- Visalia Convention Center, Visalia - Thursday, May 6, 2004
- University Square, Bakersfield - Wednesday, May 12, 2004
Refreshments and hors d'oeuvres will be served at all events.

Spaces are limited and educators are requested to RSVP at least four days prior to the date of the seminar selected. For the April 7 seminar in Atwater, educators are encouraged to register as soon as possible.
