The Library will be located at the heart of the campus – the crossroads of academic and student life. An active and open focal point for social, educational and research activities, the library building will provide a mixture of spaces. A bustling first floor will provide a café atmosphere for students who want to socialize or just hang out. The upper floors will be outfitted with collaborative workrooms for group projects as well as traditional library tables for solitary study. Capping it all off will be the Library’s magnificent 4th floor McFadden-Willis Room, a spot perfectly suited for quiet reflection.
Because so many of the Library’s resources are in electronic form, the entire building will offer wireless network access as well as hundreds of network drops where students can plug in either their own laptops or library-owned laptops checked out from the 2nd floor circulation desk. The Library will feature a groundbreaking instruction room where students will receive instruction and hands-on practice in finding, evaluating and applying information for their course assignments. The Library’s radio-frequency identification system will allow library users to check out books with hardly a pause as they exit the Library.
