Professor Forte's research is focused on a multidisciplinary approach to the development of virtual heritage the digital information that is derived from a physical site, such as an object, monument, territory or landscape. His goal for such research is integrating technology with fieldwork data from cultural heritage sites.
Professor Forte's research begins with fieldwork and concludes with post-processing in a laboratory. First, he collects data from archaeological and ancient landscapes using:
The data collected is then input into 3D, creating a virtual space which presents the data in geo-spatial form. He then directs his efforts to the epistemology of the digital recreation, constructing objects, models, avatars and simulations. In this way, the virtual heritage is available to the user for real-time interaction and navigation.
