Academic Personnel
The founding deans and faculty members have begun to build the schools of
Engineering, Natural
Sciences and Social Sciences, Humanities
and Arts at UC Merced including hiring all founding faculty members
and implementing courses in the opening academic majors.
UC Merced has also initiated College
One, which holds responsibility for general education and other educational
experiences for undergraduates extending throughout their four years at
UC Merced. A current overview of academic
planning at UC Merced provides a comprehensive summary.
Recruitment of additional outstanding junior and senior professors continues
as a high priority for each school. With up to 1,000 new students anticipated
to arrive on campus each year, the size of the faculty will grow rapidly.
Each school has a defined plan regarding positions they will fill as the
campus matures.
The University of California Academic
Senate created the University-wide
Academic Senate Task Force on UC Merced to serve as the Academic Council's
primary advisory body on development of the UC Merced campus and curriculum
while the campus was under construction. UC Merced now has its own division
of the Academic Senate, established in 2005.
