In support of the campus's focus on sustainability, the committee has decided to go green this year. Instead of stuffing envelopes, all information will be sent through a campus announcement email. This year's goal is to raise participation and funds by 10 percent. Chancellor Dorothy Leland has encouraged the campus community to support this local organization. For more than 50 years, the United Way of Merced County has been working advance the common good of our local community by partnering with agencies and programs that improve education, help individuals achieve financial stability and promote health living.

Since 2001, UC Merced has managed an annual campaign to raise funds for the United Way of Merced County. Through fun events and creative ways to give, the campus campaign strives to increase faculty, staff and student awareness of, and support for, the needs of others in our community Thank you in advance for your support during UC Merced's campus campaign for United Way of Merced County. Chili Cook-off/Bread Bake-off Results

UC Merced's United Way campaign kick off event yesterday raised $3,515.00 for United Way of Merced through the second annual Chili Cook-off/Bread Bake-off and prize drawing. This year's event had 13 chili entries and 13 bread entries. Over 250 employees attended the event. The campaign committee would like to thank all of the participants for making this year's event a huge success.

Judges Category Chili:

  • Katie Unruh – Administrative Operations – 1st place (for second year in a row)
  • Suzanne King – Student Affairs/ Bright Success Center – 2nd place
  • William Hamilton – School of Natural Sciences – 3rd place

Judges Category Bread:

  • Maria Maravilla – Dining Services – 1st place
  • Cindi Deegan – Business Financial Services – 2nd place
  • Josie Haywood – Public Safety – 3rd place

People's Choice Award:

Last year's campaign was a great success, raising more than $33,400, a 15 percent increase over 2011's campaign. This amount placed UC Merced in the top five Merced County companies with the most employees supporting United Way.
